What Is Your Self-Worth Built On?
Discover whether your foundation is solid or shaky
1. I feel good about myself when:
I accomplish goals and succeed at things
I look good and receive compliments on my appearance
Others like me, approve of me, or need me
I feel okay about myself most of the time, regardless of circumstances
2. When I fail at something important, my self-worth:
Takes a major hit—I am what I accomplish
Drops less than if someone criticized my appearance
Is fine unless others are disappointed in me too
Is challenged but fundamentally stable
3. The worst criticism someone could give me is:
"You're not competent/successful/intelligent."
"You're unattractive/overweight/aging badly."
"No one likes you/You're difficult/People don't want you around."
I'd be hurt by any of these, but they wouldn't define me.
4. I spend the most energy trying to:
Achieve more, be productive, reach goals
Look good, stay fit, dress well
Please others, be liked, avoid conflict
Live according to my values, whatever others think
5. If everything external was stripped away (job, looks, approval), I would feel:
Lost—my achievements define me
Invisible—my appearance is how I matter
Worthless—others' love gives me value
Challenged but eventually okay—I am more than these
